September 22nd, 2013

My first weekend out on my own without any Czech people and we survived!  Our trip began with a long six hour train ride into the middle of whoknowswhere Slovakia.  We got to stay in a bed and breakfast which turned out to be a single room in a guys house that he just happened to rent out.  Oh, and the breakfast was bread and butter.  Needless to say we went and got our own food.  After we got settled in we went out to dinner at a cute little Slovak restaurant that had traditional Slovakian food.  I got what was described on the menu as cheese noodles which turned out to be fancy mac and cheese.  It was type of potato noodle with sheep cheese and locally made pieces of sausage on top.  It was amazing.  We then went and got dessert where I had some type of cake that was similar to cheesecake but not exactly the same, either way it was good.  We then went back and settled in for the night because we were getting up bright and early the next day.  On Sunday we woke up at 7 am and headed off to the reason why we were in Slovakia in the first place; the ice cave.  The bus took us to the drop off point where we had to then, walk up the side of a mountain (or a very large hill) for 20 mins leaving us all dying more or less.  Once we made it to the top it was time to go caving.

After the ice cave some of the other girls were tired so we headed back into town.  We burned off some time eating dinner and just hanging out at the train station.  Our train came five mins late but we were all ready for the 7 hour trip home, which got into Prague at 3 am.  Little did we know it would not be so easy.  When the train pulled in people got off like any other stop but it was odd because there were still a lot of people standing at the exit of the train.  We assumed they were just getting off at the next stop, but no.  We turn the corner and the hallway next to all the rooms is packed with people.  All of the seats were full and we were left to stand.  We asked a boy if this was normal and he said yepp, it was definitely not American transportation.  Thankfully, after about an hour and a half a room cleared out and we were able to sit down, but it was an interesting trip to say the least.
